With "Be the change", Prasanna takes us into one of the facets of his art which he fully masters. Jazz/Fusion composition is an essential part of Prasanna's journey, and it's in this area that he's been able to share his knowledge with the greatest number of musicians.
On "Be the change", we find some of these, and not the least of them, and their references range from Wheater Report to Zappa via the Flektones.
Prasanna is sought after by a good number of musicians because he inevitably metamorphoses the colour of his music thought his hybrid style, between Indian phrasing, jazz, and rock.
On this CD we can fully appreciate this compositional approach. On a first hearing, you seem to hear music in a pure jazz tradition, but as you listen to it more and more, it's as if veils are successively lifted, and you are irresistibly drawn to a complex phrase, an intriguing rhythm, and you realise that another, more complex, world has opened up.
In fact, Prasanna has underlain his compositions with Carnatic phrasings and rhythms, and woven the jazz fusion onto this, thereby creating a totally accessible and listenable CD, which is made up in fact of truly complex pieces.
A real masterpiece of composition.
