"Septimana" - a week - and Pirly ZURSTRASSEN's has its own musical logic, its own cycle of 7.
The album in a way is a continuation of Pirly's album in duo with Daniel STOKART (Carbon 7 - 004).
This time the duo formula is piano and violin, with Pirly accompanied by Jean-Pierre CATOUL. The formula is a classical one perhaps, but the vision is different with the personality and experience of both musicians as the driving force.
Most well-known for his collaborations in jazz, Jean-Pierre CATOUL has also played in many other musical styles, as has Pirly. The result is a beautifully moving, crystalline fresco. The suite could easily find its place among the most beautiful classical pieces, but has in addition the imprint of a freedom which traditional composition does not have. Perhaps it was like this for the first instrumental composers - the mixing of two worlds, rigour and flexibility. It's a balance that few have been able to achieve, but Pirly and Jean-Pierre manage it. The horizon opens and a state of grace enters.

This CD, recorded in November 2000, is Jean-Pierre's last record; he died in an accident a short time after the mixing of the album. The CD therefore will remain a last testimony to the virtuosity and sensitivity of this exceptional violonist.
